Investment Team

David is the Founder and President of NewGen. Prior to founding NewGen in 2009, he worked at RAB Capital PLC, a UK based hedge fund manager, where was co-manager of the RAB Special Situation Fund (>$2 billion AUM), which was rated the Best Energy & Natural Resources Fund by Hedge Funds Review in 2007 and ranked No1 in Barron’s Hedge Fund 50 Global rankings in 2007. David was also a mining analyst for Canaccord Adams based in London, focusing on gold and base metal companies. He has 20 years capital markets experience, graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BA (Hons) in Economics and is a CFA Charterholder.

Chris joined NewGen in July 2011. He formerly worked at the CPP Investment Board, one of Canada’s largest asset managers with over $350 billion under management, where he was most recently Portfolio Manager in the Global Capital Markets Group, responsible for co-managing the fund’s passive global indices, trading on behalf of all groups outside of Capital Markets, and managing a proprietary book (over $2 billion of dedicated capital) focused on several trading strategies. He has 15 years capital markets experience, graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours in Business Administration (HBA), and is a CFA Charterholder.

Norm joined NewGen in January 2010. Previously he worked in corporate development for a junior gold developer and was Co-Founder and Portfolio Manager at SouthShore Capital Management, which managed the Ark Canadian Long/Short Equity Fund. Norm was also senior analyst at Epic Capital Management, a top performing Canadian hedge fund, where he focused on fundamental mining and resource related research. He also has experience in the precious metals research group at BMO Capital Markets. He has 23 years capital markets experience, and graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BA (Hons) in Finance and Economics.

Martin joined NewGen in March 2019. Previously, he worked at Timelo Investment Management, a long/short hedge fund, where he was Head of Research responsible for research coverage on the Consumer, Energy and Industrial sectors and overseeing a team of analysts. Martin started his capital markets career on the sell-side where he amassed experience in equity research and sales roles with leading independent and global investment banks. He has 12 years of capital markets experience, graduated from Concordia University with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), and is a CFA Charterholder.

Graeme joined NewGen in March 2022. Prior to that, he was a Principal at Eight Capital, a leading Canadian independent broker, where he held senior level roles in Equity Research and Institutional Equity Sales. Graeme began his career at a national accounting firm and holds the CPA designation. He is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours in Business Administration (HBA).

Jeremy joined NewGen in June 2022. He previously worked as an equities trader for 15 years at BMO Capital Markets, where he built several trading systems and most recently covered hedge fund and relative value clients. Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) degree from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Finance (MFin) degree from U of T’s Rotman School of Management and is a CFA Charterholder. He currently sits on his condo corporation’s board of directors.

Business Development Team

Rob joined NewGen in February of 2014. He formerly worked at State Street Bank & Trust as V.P. Foreign Exchange Sales & Trading and prior to that, as Managing Director at Burlington Capital Management Ltd., a L/S Hedge Fund. Prior to joining Burlington Capital, Rob was head of marketing and business development at a Toronto based Long/Short Energy Fund and previously was a portfolio manager with TD Asset Management where he managed a group of tactical asset allocation funds with mandates encompassing global equity, fixed income, and currency overlay. Prior to TD Bank, Rob spent eight years in trading and marketing roles at Bank of America in fixed income derivatives and foreign exchange. Rob graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of Guelph and is a CFA Charterholder.

Anthony joined NewGen in February of 2017. He formerly worked as a VP Sales at NEI Investments, a $6B Asset Manager that provides independent portfolio managers access to the Canadian Retail Advisor. Prior to NEI, Anthony was a Business Development Manager at RBC Global Asset Management where he was responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of their Mutual Fund, ETF and Hedge Fund Products across SW Ontario. Prior to RBC GAM, Anthony was employed as an analyst at Scotia’s Merchant Banking arm, Roynat Capital, where he provided detailed financial and operational analysis on a variety of mid-market private companies. Anthony graduated with an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Julia joined NewGen in October 2020. She recently graduated from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Law & Business. During her studies, Julia was also an NBA dancer for the Toronto Raptors. She is currently working towards her CSC certification.

Operations Team

Olga joined NewGen in 2013 as Operations Officer and assumed the role of Chief Compliance Officer in October of 2014. Olga brings 20+ years of progressive responsibility and experience gained working for well-established accounting companies. Prior to joining NewGen, Olga held the position of Controller at Adaly Investment Management Corp. and Leeward Hedge Funds. Before that she worked for Silver Gold Glatt & Grossman Fund Accounting Services and Nigel Stephens Counsel. Olga holds a Master’s degree in Engineering. She is a Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), has completed the Chief Compliance Officers (CCO) Qualifying Exam and is pursuing a professional designation in accounting and finance.

Chris joined NewGen in July 2019. Prior to joining NewGen, he worked at Jemekk Capital Management, a Long/Short hedge fund, as Trading Associate where he was responsible for trade support, maintaining compliance and risk models as well as assisting their research initiatives. Mr. Hercus began his capital markets career as a Trading and Portfolio Administrator at Front Street Capital, one of Canadas largest independent mutual fund and hedge fund companies. He also brings sell-side experience, formerly working at a Toronto based independent brokerage as an associate, working with the institutional trading team as well as leading efforts to grow their investment banking business. He has 8 years of capital markets experience and pursuing a professional designation in finance.
